1. Who we are
Self Help For Beginners is operated by Angelika Ullsperger. For any personal data we collect directly through this website, Angelika Ullsperger acts as the data controller.
2. What we collect and why
We collect the minimum data needed to run the site and deliver your workbook:
- Email address — to deliver your workbook, send your receipt, and (only if you opt in) send occasional letters.
- Order details — the workbook you bought, order date and amount, so we can support you if something goes wrong.
- Support messages — anything you send us by email, kept only for as long as we need to help you.
- Basic usage / device info — IP address, browser and page views, to keep the site secure and understand how it's used.
3. Legal basis
We process your data on the basis of (a) performance of a contract — to deliver the workbook you bought and provide support; (b) our legitimate interests — keeping the site secure and improving it; (c) your consent — for marketing emails, which you can withdraw at any time; and (d) legal obligations — where we're required to keep records (e.g. tax).
4. Who we share it with
- Paddle — our Merchant of Record. Paddle processes your payment, calculates tax, issues your invoice, and handles refunds. Their handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policy.
- Service providers — hosting, analytics and email delivery providers acting under our instructions.
- Professional advisers — legal or accounting advisers, only where necessary.
- Authorities — where required by law.
We do not sell your personal data.
5. How long we keep it
We keep order records for as long as required by tax and accounting rules (typically up to 7 years). Marketing data is kept until you unsubscribe. Support messages are kept only as long as needed to resolve your issue.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- correct data that's wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete it;
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- ask for a copy in a portable format;
- withdraw consent to marketing at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@selfhelpforbeginners.com. If you're in the UK/EEA, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
7. International transfers
Some of our service providers (including Paddle) may process data outside your country. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.
8. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures — including encryption in transit, access controls and reputable providers — to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously.
9. Cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies to make the site work, and may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand traffic. We don't use advertising cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings at any time.
